Articles, reflections and research on family life, adolescence and wellbeing

I devote much of my time to reading, researching and writing about the themes that shape modern emotional life – adolescence, parenting, adoption, safety, resilience, culture, connection and the quiet loss of our village. Much of this reflection is shaped by travelling, offering therapy and retreats across different countries, where diverse cultures give me the opportunity to observe, learn from and sometimes rediscover family and community dynamics that have stood the test of time, and consider what they might still teach us today.

Why I write

Writing allows me to take the questions that appear again and again in therapeutic work and explore them more deeply.

Why are parents so quick to diagnose their teenagers?

What happens when a child begins to pull away?

How do we build independence when the world feels unsafe?

Where has resilience gone?

How can we improve provision for adoptees and adoptive parents so both feel safe and supported on their journey through the adopted experience?

Why do so many people carry pain for decades before they are able to name it?

These are not abstract questions to me. They are human questions, and they deserve space.
