Description
Parenting adolescents is often described as demanding, but that word rarely captures the full reality. This stage of parenting requires constant emotional presence, flexibility, and regulation, often while parents are navigating work pressures, ageing parents, financial concerns, health changes, and their own emotional histories.
Many parents arrive at adolescence already tired. They may have spent years prioritising their children’s needs, adapting routines, and holding family life together. When adolescence brings emotional intensity, conflict, withdrawal, or worry, parents are often expected, implicitly or explicitly, to “cope,” “stay calm,” and “be the adult,” without space to acknowledge how taxing this can be.
This eBook is different from the other eBooks in this series because it turns the focus towards you.
Not because your child matters less, but because your well-being is foundational to everything else. Research in family psychology consistently shows that a parent’s emotional state shapes the emotional climate of the home. When parents are overwhelmed, depleted, or chronically stressed, it becomes much harder to respond with patience, curiosity, and compassion, no matter how strong the intention.
